Literatures Published During the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republican Period
wan qing min guo wen xian
​PKU library is one of the earliest libraries in China that collects newspapers and periodicals. There are more than 10,000 kinds of periodicals and more than 600 kinds of newspapers published during the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republican Period, and over 50,000 copies of books published in the Republican period are collected in PKU library. With one of the largest collection in China, the PKU library also obtains different kinds of only existing copy and rare editions, which is cherished by many collectors and scholars. These collections are mainly composed of the books once obtained by the old Peking University and Yenching University, and some books from l'Université Franco-Chinoise and Deutschland-Institut. The newspapers and books published during the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republican Period are of much importance to the studies on the modernization of China, including the aspects of ideological and academic, military and politics, education and culture, language and literature, social customs as well.

Revolutionary Documents

Categories of Revolutionary Document holdings at PKU Library:

1. Enlightening publications since the Revolution of 1911 and the May Fourth Movement.

2. Pioneering translations of Marxist works and introductive publications.

3. Revolutionary Documents related to Peking University and/or Li Dazhao.

4. Documents published by or related to the Communist Party of China, from the founding of the CPC to the Anti-Japanese War.

5. Documents published by or related to the CPC during the Anti-Japanese War.

6. Documents published by or related to the CPC, since the victory of the Anti-Japanese War to the founding of People's Republic of China.
Special Collections of Distinguished Scholars
Ming jia zhuan cang
Special collections of distinguished scholars mainly collects and preserves various academic and cultural works, including monographs, translations, research achievements, and papers, produced by current and former Beijing University faculty, staff, and alumni.

Peking University Library also preserves personal book collections donated by renowned scholars, notable figures, and distinguished Peking University scholars from both China and abroad. Notable donators including figures like Hu Shih, Ji Xianlin, Hou Renzhi, Qian Duansheng, Su Bai, Donald Holzman, Han Suyin, Zhang Zhilian, Duan Baolin, and others.

Special Collections in Western Languages
xi wen te cang
​The collections are composed of the books in western languages which were published in the ancient years or with some special significance, the collection of oriental studies beginning with O and published before 1980, part of the Deutschland-Institut (1931-1946, a cultural institution with Chinese and German scholars' participation) collection, part of Chinois-Franco University (1919-1950) collection whose majority is the French books from the School of Literature, China-related Microfilms & Microfiches in British and American Diplomatic Archives, etc.

Yenching University Dissertations
The Yenching University Dissertation Collection mainly contains bachelor and master dissertations from the former Yenching University, including a small number of graduate theses and theses from other universities, with a total number of more than 2600 volumes (including duplicates). The collections are preserved by digital scan of the original manuscripts.

Peking University Dissertations
1. Peking University Dissertation Repository mainly collects all the dissertations after 2003 and some dissertation titles and full texts from 1985 to 2003.



2. For printed dissertations, please go to the Special Collections Reading Room(in the South Reading Room on the fourth floor of the East Building). This reading room contains all the doctoral and master's dissertations of Peking University since 1981.

Postdoctoral Research Reports
Peking University library has collected nearly 10,000 postdoctoral research reports from 1995 to 2022, which are served in both paper version and electronic version.



All the postdoctoral discharge reports from 2013 onwards are available in electronic version, and can be viewed in full text online through the campus network.
