Private Collections Donated by Celebrities

This collection consists of the donated private collections of famous scholars and celebrities from not only Peking University but also home and abroad, including the donation of Ji Xianlin, Hou Renzhi, Su Bai, Archilles Fang, Donald Holzman, Qian Duansheng, Zhang Zhilian and Duan Baolin.

Duan Baolin Collection

Description: Duan Baolin is the professor in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Peking University. His donation is mainly composed of folk literature, folk art and folklore, and literature in Chinese mainland. Literatures from Macau, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the United states of America are also included.

Archilles Fang Collection

Description: Achilles Fang (1910-1995) was a Chinese-American scholar from Harvard University. His donation is mainly composed of books of various subjects of humanities and social sciences in western languages, some books about natural science are also included.

Elisabeth Comber Collection

Description: The donation of Chinese-English writer Elisabeth Comber (1917-2012). The collection is mainly composed of books of Literature and Historical Geography in different languages, including Chinese, Japanese, English and France.

Huang Hua Collection

Description: Huang Hua (1913-2010) was an alumnus of Yenching University, who had worked as Vice Premier and vice chairman of the National People's Congress. His donations are mainly books in Chinese and English, which are about politics, diplomacy, history, the history of the Communist Party of China and the general situation of all countries in the world.

Hou Renzhi Collection

Description: Hou Renzhi was a famous scholar in historical geography and an academician of CAS from College of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University. His donations are mainly books about historical geography, especially the historical geography of Beijing.

Donald Holzman Collection

Description: This collection is the donation of famous French sinologist Donald Holzman (1926-). This collection is mainly composed of books about sinology in Chinese and western languages.

Ji Xianlin Collection

Description: The donation from Ji Xianlin, the professor of the Department of Orientalism of the Peking University. Part of them belonged to the private collection of professor Ji, and part of them were received from other scholars by the professor.

 Zhang Zhilian Collection

Description: The donation of professor Zhang Zhilian (1918-2008) of the Department of History of Peking University. This collection is composed of books about humanities and social sciences in Chinese and foreign languages. This collection is distinguishable because of its books about French history and other related books in French.

Qian Duansheng Collection

Description: The private collection of famous scholar Qian Duansheng (1900-1990) of Peking University. The collection is composed of books about law, politics, philosophy, national government and parliament, national constitution, national history, diplomacy, international relations, and many other aspects.

Su Bai Collection

Description: The donation of famous archaeologist Su Bai. This collection is mainly about humanities and social sciences, especially archaeology and history. The books and periodicals are mainly in Chinese, but English and Japanese literatures are also included.
